Zerlaut made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1959/60 . Already at the opening jump on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he landed with the 21st place on his best place in the context of his entire Four Hills Tournament career. After he only achieved a mediocre result with 37th place on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he did not travel with the team to Austria for the other two competitions. In the overall ranking, Zerlaut reached 39th place. In the following years, he could no longer build on this ranking. After three unsuccessful tours in which he only competed one or two competitions in Germany, he ended his active ski jumping career in 1965.
