Freiholz made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup as a 16-year-old on December 2, 1990 in Lake Placid and immediately reached 27th place. A week later, he was fifth in Thunder Bay , and at the Four Hills Tournament that year he was eighth overall . In the following years Freiholz was one of the world's top ski jumpers.
In the following years he was rarely in the top ranks in the World Cup, but was always in good shape at World Championships . In 1995 he reached fourth place on the normal hill in Thunder Bay ; In 1997 in Trondheim he was seventh on the normal hill and won the bronze medal on the large hill. In the following years, however, he was unable to build on these successes.
At the national level Freiholz won seven titles in Swiss championships. He ended his career after the winter of 2002/03. Today the qualified microelectronics technician works in his hometown Le Brassus as a watchmaker for his long-term sponsor Audemars Piguet .
