Autrans in winter

Autrans is a village and a commune Déléguée in the French community Autrans Méaudre-en-Vercors with 1,543 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Autrans is located around 15 kilometers west of Grenoble (as the crow flies) in the Vercors Mountains.

On January 1, 2016, the Autrans municipality merged with Méaudre to form the Commune nouvelle Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors.

Autrans is a well-known winter sports resort and is one of the most important centers of Nordic skiing in France. There are cross-country trails with a total length of 160 kilometers, both for classic and free style. During the 1968 Winter Olympics , biathlon , cross-country skiing and ski jumping competitions were held here. The Le Claret ski jump is still in operation. There are also two smaller ski areas for alpine skiing . In summer there are 550 km of hiking trails and 150 km of mountain bike trails available. The municipality is located in the Vercors Regional Nature Park .

Events

Important events include the La Foulée Blanche cross-country ski race (since 1979), the Rencontres d'Autrans (information technology congress, since 1997) and the Festival international de film de montagne (International Mountain Film Festival, since 1984).

The partner municipalities are Lillehammer in Norway and Puilboreau in the Charente-Maritime department .
