Tällberg made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on December 30, 1986 as part of the opening competition for the Four Hills Tournament 1986/87 in Oberstdorf . He finished all jumping of the tour in the lower ranks. At the beginning of the 1987/88 season he was able to achieve a placement in the top ten with 6th place in the first competition on the normal hill in Sapporo . One day later he made it onto the podium for the first time from the large hill with a 3rd place. At the Four Hills Tournament in 1987/88 he was also able to jump on the podium in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the Junior World Championships in 1988 in Saalfelden , he won the silver medal on the normal hill. Shortly afterwards he was also the Swedish master of the normal hill. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Tällberg jumped from the normal and large hill to 8th place. In the team competition he finished seventh together with Anders Daun , Jan Boklöv and his brother Per-Inge Tällberg . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , Tällberg jumped from the normal hill to 26th and from the large hill to 19th place. In the team competition, he reached 5th place with the team. At the Junior World Championships in 1989 in Vang , Norway , Tällberg won the bronze medal again from the normal hill. After the World Cup, it took some time before he was able to build on his old achievements. It was not until January 12, 1990 that he made it back to the top ten in Harrachov . On March 17, 1991, he was able to jump onto the podium for the first time with third place in Oslo on Holmenkollen , before he celebrated his first and only World Cup victory in ski flying in Planica just six days later . In the following season, he made it onto the podium again in Sapporo and Predazzo . Subsequently, front placements became rare. In 1996 Tällberg ended his active ski jumping career.
