The University of Skopje (full name: University "St. Cyril and Method " - Skopje ; Macedonian: Универзитет "Св. Кирил и Методиј" - Скопје) was founded in 1949. With around 40,000 students (2012–2013) it is the largest university in North Macedonia .
The range of subjects includes numerous technical, humanities, medical-biological and artistic subjects, languages, social sciences, history, cultural studies, law, economics and agricultural sciences.
The university also has institutes outside the city of Skopje: The Institute for Mining and Geology and one of the two educational faculties are located in Štip , and the Institute for Rice Cultivation in Kočani .
The Orthodox Theological Faculty of Skopje , founded in 1977, has been part of the university since 2009 and has the status of an accompanying member.
The University of Skopje is a member of the International Association of Universities and a member of the Balkan Universities Network .
