Walter Kolbow (born April 27, 1944 in Spittal an der Drau ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

From 2005 to 2009 he was Deputy Chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and from 1998 to 2005 he was Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense .

Life and work

After elementary school in Ingolstadt and Ochsenfurt and the Roentgen-Gymnasium in Würzburg , Kolbow did his military service in the Air Force from 1964 to 1966 ; today he is captain d. R. He then studied law in Würzburg and completed a supplementary course at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer . In 1970 he passed the first and in 1974 the second state examination in law . He joined the City of Frankfurt am Main as a magistrate in 1975 . From 1978 to 1980 he was employed for a research assignment at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation .

Walter Kolbow is widowed and has two children, including Würzburg city councilor Alexander Kolbow (SPD).

Political party

He has been a member of the SPD since 1967. Until 2008 he was chairman of the SPD district of Lower Franconia , now he is honorary chairman.

MP

From 1972 to 1976 he was a member of the city council of Ochsenfurt and from 1978 to 1981 of the city council of Würzburg.

From 1980 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1994 to 1998 he was defense policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group .

From November 28, 2005 Kolbow was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group for the areas of foreign policy, development policy, defense and human rights.

Walter Kolbow has always entered the German Bundestag via the Bavarian State List . He has announced his retirement from politics for 2009 and is no longer running.

Public offices

After the federal election in 1998 , Kolbow was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense on October 27, 1998 in the federal government led by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder . In this function, from April 6, 1999 to December 31, 1999, he was the Federal Government Commissioner for the coordination of German aid measures in Macedonia . After the general election in 2005 , he left office on November 22, 2005.

Kolbow is a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Academy for Security Policy .
