In the first few years of his career Preben Fjære Brynemo started mainly in the B-World Cup in Nordic Combined . There he posted third place overall in the 1997/98 season . In the following year he was able to improve again and won the overall ranking. Overall, he was able to win two days.
Brynemo competed in his first Nordic Combined World Cup in 1999. His best result in this series was a third place in a Gundersen competition on the large hill, which took place on December 1, 2001 in Lillehammer. This is also his only podium finish in the World Cup.
