Eberhard van Spankeren (born March 18, 1761 in Moers , † February 21, 1840 in Eupen ) was a German Protestant clergyman.

Eberhard von Spankeren was born as the son of the rent master Johann Matthias van Spankeren (* March 24, 1735 - April 1, 1815) and his wife Margarete (* December 28, 1727 in Moers; † December 10, 1763 in Moers). Nourney, born. His brother was Johann Mathias van Spankeren (* July 25, 1763 in Moers; † March 26, 1765).

After the second marriage of his father to Anna Maria (born April 13, 1763 in Emmerich ; † 1786 in Moers), b. Hummelsiep, he had the following half-siblings:

Eberhard von Spankeren married Karoline Wilhelmine, born on December 5, 1791. Klönne (* December 5, 1769 in Solingen-Wald ; † June 2, 1845 in Eupen) a daughter of Pastor Gerhard Adolf Klönne (1733-1803) from Solingen-Wald. They had ten children together, so in 1825 the Koblenz consistory named him the priest with the largest number of children in the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine :

His children received royal permission to call themselves von Spankeren on June 12, 1858 . Admission into the Prussian nobility was not connected with this.

His grandson was Rudolf von Spankeren , a Prussian lieutenant general

Career

Eberhard von Spankeren attended high school in Moers and then studied theology in Duisburg . In 1780 he came to the parish of Waldniel and Brüggen and was ordained in 1781. He later became a pastor in Waldniel, Jüchen and Solingen-Wald. In 1792 he was elected pastor in Eupen, in which position he remained for 48 years until his death.

In 1813 he became a member of the municipal school commission in Eupen, which was responsible for the administration of all spiritual and school matters, including filling school teaching positions. In 1816 he was appointed inspector of the Protestant schools in the districts of Eupen, Montjoie , Gemünd and Malmedy . In 1821 he became an assessor (deputy to the superintendent). In 1830 he was appointed provisional president of the former reformed local consistory in Stolberg , and in 1833 he became consistorial president.

In 1835 he was elected superintendent of the evangelical church district of Aachen .

In 1838 he resigned his offices as superintendent and school inspector for health reasons .

Awards

In 1819 he was awarded the 3rd Class Red Eagle Order by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. awarded, shortly before his death he was also given "the ribbon" (knights of the 3rd class who had been in the order of 10 years and more).
