Sebastian Haseney (born August 27, 1978 in Suhl ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete . The police chief of the federal police started for the association SC Motor Zella-Mehlis . Together with Hannu Manninen he was one of the strongest cross-country skiers among the Nordic combiners of his time.

Career

Beginnings

Haseney received skiing instruction from his parents when he was two years old. At the age of six as a kindergarten child, he prevailed in a school competition against children three years older. A coach from the SC Motor Zella-Mehlis club, who was looking for talent, asked him if he would like to come to training. In 1985 Haseney began his career in cross-country skiing and ski jumping at the age of seven. From 1994 it was also used internationally by the German Ski Association (DSV). From 1994 to 1998 he went to the sports high school in Oberhof and passed the Abitur.

1999 to 2003

When he was accepted into the B-World Cup of Nordic Combined for the 1998/99 season, he achieved second place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Chamonix and he even won the race in Lake Placid . Due to the good performance in the B World Cup, he was nominated and used for the World Ski Championships in Ramsau . At the German Championships in Oberwiesenthal in the Ore Mountains , he stormed from third place after jumping in the 15 km cross-country skiing to the gold medal. At his first World Ski Championships, he reached sixth place in the team relay and eighth place in the sprint. After the World Ski Championships he was accepted into the A-World Cup of Nordic Combined for the first time and reached third place behind Samppa Lajunen from Finland and Bjarte Engen Vik from Norway on his debut in Lahti , the other placings in Oslo and Falun were eighth each. He finished his first season in the World Cup in 23rd place overall. In spring 1999 he had to undergo meniscus surgery. In the 1999/2000 World Cup season he reached fifth place twice and eighth place three times. In the overall standings Haseney improved to 15th place. Also in 2000 he became German champion.

His first World Cup victory came shortly before the 2001 World Ski Championships in the 2000/01 season in Steamboat Springs . At the World Ski Championships in Lahti he reached 31st place in Gundersen and fourth place in the team relay. He finished the overall World Cup in tenth place. At the Federal Border Guard in Bad Endorf , he trained as a police master . At the beginning of the 2001/02 World Cup season , he came fourth in Kuopio . In Val di Fiemme he was fifth in the sprint and third in the sprint in Lahti and was 13th in the overall World Cup ranking this season. At his first Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002, he was 21st in the 15 km race. In 2002 he won his third national title. Because of his training as a police master, he was only able to train late after 3 p.m. and so he only came in 23rd place in the overall ranking in the 2002/03 season . In the summer of 2003 he practiced his big problem jumping technique with his home trainer Siegfried Sturm, because in recent years his weakness has been in the transition area after the jump.

2004 to 2008

In addition, Haseney took part in a race at the cross-country world cup in Düsseldorf 2003 in the 1.5 km sprint and was 68. The progress could be seen at the beginning of the 2003/04 season , because he was several times among the top ten. In the meantime, Haseney was in third place in the overall World Cup, but in the end he finished sixth in the Gundersen and fourth in the sprint. A season later he was among the top ten three times, but Haseney was not satisfied with the rest of the results. So he ended up in the overall World Cup again only in 23rd place.

At the World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 , he won the silver medal with the team. The 2005/06 World Cup season also began with good results, as he was seventh in the sprint in Lillehammer and fifth in the Gundersen competition in Harrachov . In the World Cup ranking he came in 17th place. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he was initially a spectator because he was not used in the team. He was sixth in the Gundersen and 29th in the sprint. At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, he had his best season competition. The 2006/07 season began for Haseney with good results in the World Cup. He came in second place three times and third place twice. In the overall World Cup ranking he finished eighth. At the 2007 World Ski Championships in Sapporo , he and the team won the silver medal, ninth place in Gundersen and 26th place in sprint. In June 2007 Haseney had to undergo an operation on his right knee.

2009 to 2011

He celebrated his second victory in the 2007/08 World Cup season at the World Cup sprint in Val di Fiemme. Despite a fever, he entered this race. The day before, he finished third in the individual. At the end of the season he was only 16th in the overall ranking. In the winter season 2008/09 he fell ill in January 2009 from a virus infection. He managed to finish in the top ten only three times in the World Cup, and in the end he was only 20th overall. At his last World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he finished ninth in Gundersen. To qualify for the third time for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , he failed a season later. In January 2010 he was not satisfied with his performance and his health was in poor health again. In January 2011 he ended his active career.

Private

For several years he has been in a relationship with the bank clerk Maika. The former national ski jumping trainer Reinhard Heß is Maika's uncle. In October 2007 Haseney became the father of a son.
