Johann Georg Schoch (baptized February 28, 1627 in Leipzig , † around 1690 ) was a German poet , playwright and translator of the Baroque period .

Life

Schoch was the son of a Leipzig jeweler. After attending school in his hometown, he enrolled at Leipzig University in 1644, where he came into contact with the poet David Schirmer . Together with Schirmer, he went to Wittenberg for a while in order to be able to attend August Buchner's much-praised lectures . His law degree , however, took place again in Leipzig, probably around 1658, because from 1659 he is proven to be a lawyer in Naumburg (Saale) . In 1668 he was a bailiff in Westerburg, and in 1678 his residence is proven to be in Kölln an der Spree, today Berlin. After that his track is lost. In addition to a number of other writings, Schoch left behind an important collection of baroque poetry, including 100 songs, 200 sonnets and 400 epigrams. Despite multiple efforts, he was never accepted into the Fruitful Society .
