Christoph Kormart

Christoph Kormart (born July 22, 1644 in Leipzig , † February 23, 1701 in Dresden ) was a German writer and translator of the Baroque period .

Life

Kormart was the son of one of the earliest German newspaper publishers who had made it a name in Leipzig. Raised by private tutors, he enrolled in Wittenberg in 1660 at the age of 16 and was probably one of August Buchner's last students. In his native Leipzig, he apparently continued his studies up to a master's degree in philosophy , as a disputation in 1665, which names him as Praeses, shows. At this point, however, he decided to switch to law and enrolled in Strasbourg in 1670 without completing his studies. As a legal advisor he tried from 1670 to find a livelihood in Dresden until he was able to do his doctorate in Jena in 1678 as a doctor of both rights.

His most extensive work is without a doubt the German version of La Calprenède's baroque colossal novel Statira with well over 4,000 pages, but his other translations from French and Dutch also experienced z. T. many editions.
