Schmid made his international debut in December 2004 at FIS races . On January 20, 2006, he started in Oberstdorf for the first time in the B World Cup. At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Kranj he reached eighth place with the Swiss team. In Gundersen he reached place 22 and sprint 29th place. A year later at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Tarvisio he was able to improve his results and reached 13th place in Gundersen and 16th in sprint. Schmid made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on January 14, 2007 in Lago di Tesero . In his first season he was able to achieve his best results so far with 27th place in the Sprint World Cup and 34th place in the overall World Cup ranking. At the Junior World Championship in Zakopane in 2008 , he won the silver medal in the sprint. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver he reached 40th place in the individual on the normal hill and 16th in the individual on the large hill. In the team competition he came in ninth place together with Tim Hug , Ronny Heer and Seppi Hurschler .
