Hannes Dotzler (born February 25, 1990 ) is a former German cross-country skier .

Career

Hannes Dotzler came to cross-country skiing through his parents at the age of four. After graduating from the Oberstdorf ski school , he began his training as a federal police officer at the Federal Police Sports School in Bad Endorf . Dotzler achieved his first success at the Junior World Championships 2009 in Praz-de-Lys-Sommand . There he was able to win his first World Championship medal with silver after a twelfth place in the 10 km freestyle and a fifth in the pursuit in the relay. In the following year he missed an individual medal again, but was able to repeat the success of the relay with a third place. After these results Dotzler was used for the first time in the World Cup, where he came in the top 30 several times. At the Junior World Championships 2010 Dotzler ran again to bronze with the relay. In 2012 he added his first individual medals, which he won in the double pursuit and the 15 km classic. At national level, Dotzler was German champion in sprint and team sprint in 2012 . He achieved his best placings in the World Cup in 2012 and 2013 with two sixth places - both times in the 15 km mass start. Dotzler also took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme . There he was able to convince mainly through his appearance as a starting runner in the relay race, where he was able to hand over as the leader, and his seventh place in the 50 km mass start, which was also the best placement of the German cross-country men in an individual race.

In the 2013/14 season , Dotzler achieved a podium finish in the World Cup for the first time on January 1, 2014 with second place in the 15 km mass start race in Lenzerheide as part of the Tour de Ski . In the overall ranking of the tour, he finished 13th as the best German. At the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi , he also achieved 12th place in the skiathlon as the best German starter. Over 15 km in classic style, he took eleventh place. In the team sprint, he missed a safe medal because his partner Tim Tscharnke fell shortly before the finish line. At the German cross-country skiing championships in Oberwiesenthal in 2017 , he came third in the 50 km freestyle.

Due to a viral illness, Dotzler had to take longer breaks. In November 2017, he announced his resignation.

Hannes Dotzler started for SC Sonthofen.

Private

Hannes Dotzler is the son of Stefan Dotzler , who also took part in cross-country skiing in the Winter Olympics in 1984 and 1988 .
