Tom Reichelt (born May 12, 1982 in Marienberg ) is a former German cross-country skier , member of the German national team and Olympic participant in 2010 in Vancouver . In 2014 he won the overall ranking of the Marathon Cup .

Life

Reichelt comes from Heidersdorf near Seiffen in the Ore Mountains, where he attended elementary school until 1992. His first trainer was Frank Hiemann. Until 1996 he went to the grammar school in Olbernhau . Then he went to the Oberwiesenthal sports high school . He has been a member of the national team since 1998. In 2001 he graduated from high school.

After completing basic military service, he became a sports soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Frankenberg in 2002 .

Career

Tom Reichelt started for the WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal . At the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest , he was 16th over 10 kilometers in free technique and 26th over 30 kilometers in classic style. Tom Reichelt celebrated his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in January 2003 in Oberhof . Two years later, the Saxon won his first World Cup points in Nové Město na Moravě . His first major breakthrough came in March 2006 when he sensationally finished third in the 50 km freestyle World Cup on Holmenkollen , his best result to date.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo , Japan , his first World Cup participation, Reichelt managed to fight for 18th place in the 50 km discipline.

Tom Reichelt was able to show his strengths especially in long and demanding races in free technique. Here he won some races outside of the FIS World Cup, u. a. the König-Ludwig-Lauf 2006 and 2008.

At the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo , Japan , he was 18th over 50 kilometers in the classic technique. On November 22, 2008, Reichelt surprisingly took fourth place over 15 km freestyle at the World Cup opener in Gällivare , Sweden , and was the first German to qualify for the 2009 Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec, Czech Republic . There he was 32nd in sprint, 39th in skiathlon and 23rd over 50 kilometers in free technique.

At the Tour de Ski 2008/2009 , Reichelt ran the second fastest time in the final mountain pursuit, 1.5 seconds behind the fastest Ivan Babikov . With that he achieved his first, second place in a World Cup race. In the overall ranking of the Tour de Ski, he finished 29th.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Reichelt, who moved up as a substitute, finished 46th over 15 kilometers in free style. He also started in the skiathlon (15 km classic and 15 km free), in which he finished 35th. At the 2011 World Championships he reached 36th place in the skiathlon and was 18th over 50 kilometers in free technique. He ran his last World Cup on December 14, 2013 when he finished 28th over 30 kilometers in free technique in Davos, Switzerland . Then he ran the races of the Marathon Cup , the overall ranking of which he was able to win. He won the American Birkebeiner on February 22, 2014 . After the season he ended his career.
