from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FIS Worldloppet Cup (until 2015 FIS Marathon Cup ) of the international ski association FIS comprised a series of ski marathons . The cross-country committee of the FIS and the Worldloppet Ski Association put together the competition series in cooperation and took over the awarding of the overall ranking. The cross-country skiing marathon cup was first held in the 1999/2000 season and was launched to make the start of ski marathons more attractive for elite skiers.

The program of the Worldloppet Cup could change from year to year. The cup mainly consisted of races from the Worldloppet series. Competitions that were included in the cup series had to have a minimum length of 42 km. But no more than two races of the cup should be shorter than 50 km. The aim was that the competitions are geographically balanced and that both classical and free technique races are represented.

The points for the overall ranking of the Worldloppet Cup were awarded to the top 30 men and 30 women. The winner received 100 points, the runner-up 80, the third 60, the fourth 50, the fifth 45, etc. The series was last held in the 2018/19 season and discontinued for the 2019/20 season because the goal was to start at To make ski marathons more attractive for elite skiers.
