Poirrier made his debut in the Alpencup in Schilpario in February 2005 , where he finished 76th in the sprint and 70th in the 10 km freestyle. In January 2007 he achieved his first point placement with tenth place over 10 km freestyle in Cogne . In December 2008 Poirrier started in La Clusaz for the first time in the World Cup , where he reached 53rd place in the 30 km freestyle mass start race and, as the final runner, twelfth place with the third French relay. At the Alpencup in Campra in February 2010, Poirrier achieved his first podium finish with second place over 15 km freestyle. A month later he finished seventh in the prologue and sixth in the final pursuit at the Rogla stage race. A year later Poirrier was eighth over 10 km classic in the same place. Shortly afterwards he finished fourth in the stage race in Ramsau in the 10 km freestyle stage and also finished fourth in the final ranking after the fifth fastest run on the final pursuit stage. In November 2012, he finished eighth with the French relay at the World Cup in Gällivare . In March 2013 Poirrier reached sixth place in the 30 km freestyle mass start race at the Alpine Cup at Campo Carlo Magno and a week later won the 10 km classic in Toblach . In February 2014 he finished third with the third fastest time on the final stage of the stage race in Campra and took second place in Oberwiesenthal over 15 km in classic and freestyle relay. In the overall ranking of the 2013/14 Alpine Cup , Poirrier finished fourth. In January 2015 he was second again in Oberwiesenthal over 15 km freestyle. As a result, Poirrier mainly took part in races of the Marathon Cup . In February 2015 he was seventh in the Transjurassienne and ninth in the Bieg Piastów . In March 2015, he finished fifth in the Engadin Skimarathon . In January 2016, Poirrier finished fifth at La Foulée Blanche and won the Dolomite Run . At Bieg Piastów in March 2016, he finished fifth. At the beginning of April 2016 he finished third in the Ugra Ski Marathon and came second in the overall ranking of the Worldloppet Cup . In the following season he came in the top ten five times in the Worldloppet Cup, including third place in the Tartu Maraton and thus reached fifth place in the overall standings and in the 2017/18 season with six top ten placements in fourth place Overall rating.
After finishing third at the Vasaloppet China in early 2019, Poirrier made it into the top ten three times and once again reached fourth place in the overall ranking of the Worldloppet Cup.
