Oskar Svärd (born September 19, 1976 in Tvärred , Ulricehamn municipality ) is a Swedish cross-country skier who is particularly successful in the ski marathon .

Career

Svärd, who started at the beginning of his career for the club Vålådalen SK , began his active career in 1999 at FIS races in Sweden. After the sports soldier achieved good results in the meantime, he was nominated for the 2000 Military World Ski Championships in Saalfelden . There he reached 56th place in the race over 15 kilometers. He also started in the cross-country skiing marathon cup for the first time and finished second in the Wasalauf . In December 2000, Svärd tried to start in the Continental Cup for two races, but withdrew from it for lack of success. In February 2001 he was third at Finlandia-hiihto . At the 2001 Military World Ski Championships in Colchester , he reached 42nd place.

On February 10, 2002, Svärd started again as part of the Worldloppet series. He came in tenth place in the Tartu Maraton over 27 kilometers in classic style. Just three weeks later in March he came third in the Wasalauf . In the following year he started again in the ski marathon. He was able to win the Jizera Mountains run right at the start of the season. After a third place at the Marcialonga and Tartu Maraton and a fourth place at the Dolomitenlauf , he won the Wasalauf over 90 kilometers. At the Swedish championships in cross-country skiing two weeks later in Boden , Svärd missed out on a 19th place in the sprint and a 12th place over 50 kilometers.

In the Military World Ski Championships 2003 in Finnish Rovaniemi he could his achievements after 2001 again not increase, reaching only number 44 over 15 kilometers. In 2004 Svärd won the Jizera Mountains again. Two weeks after the race on January 25, 2004, Svärd made his debut in the Cross-Country World Cup . In Val di Fiemme , however, he could not finish the race over 70 kilometers. In the sprint race in Stockholm in February , he reached 28th place. Thus he reached 67th place in the overall sprint standings in the World Cup at the end of the 2003/04 season . In the overall World Cup ranking he reached 145th place. In November 2004, Svärd reached sixth place with the relay at the World Cup race over four by 10 kilometers in Gällivare . Before that, he had to settle for 72nd place in the individual over 15 km.

In 2005 he fully concentrated on the Worldloppet Tour and won the Wasalauf again. In the other stations he was also able to achieve good results with podium placements and placements among the top ten. At the cross-country skiing world cup race in Mora on March 5th, 2006 Svärd reached fifth place. In the end, he was 62nd overall in the Distance World Cup. In the overall World Cup 2005/06 it was 89th place. At the Military World Ski Championships in 2007 he reached 22nd place over 15 km. After his third victory in 2007 at the Wasalauf, Svärd became the most successful Wasalauf participant of his generation alongside Daniel Tynell . In March 2007 he also won the Engelbrektsloppet . In 2007 and 2009 he won the Fossavatn Ski Marathon over 50 km freestyle.

After he could not win a race in the cross-country skiing marathon cup in 2008 and he did not start in 2009, he won again in 2010 at the Jizera Mountains Run and the Marcialonga. In the end, he finished second overall in the Marathon Cup. At the 2010 Military World Ski Championships in Cogne , he reached 26th place over 15 km. In the 2010/11 season he came third at the König-Ludwig-Lauf and second at the Marcialonga . He won the Finlandia-hiihto and thus reached fourth place in the overall cross-country skiing marathon cup. In the years that followed, he mostly ranked outside the top ten. At the Wasalauf he came in 2013 on the 22nd, 2014 on the ninth and 2015 on the 25th place.
