Maurizio Pozzi (born June 25, 1970 in Bormio ) is a former Italian cross-country skier .

Career

Pozzi made his debut in Cogne in January 1992 in the cross-country skiing world cup and finished 23rd in the 15 km freestyle. In December 1992 he ran his first race in the Continental Cup in Tauplitz , which he finished classically in 15th place over 15 km and scored his first World Cup points at the World Cup in Val di Fiemme with 16th place over 30 km freestyle. The following month he was third at the Continental Cup in Admont over 10 km freestyle and in La Féclaz over 15 km classic. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 1993 he achieved 19th place over 50 km freestyle and at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay, 20th place over 50 km freestyle. At the beginning of the 1996/97 season he came in Brusson with the second place with the relay for the first time in the World Cup podium. In the further course of the season he reached in Kawgolowo with the third place over 30 km freestyle his only podium place in the world cup individual and won his first World Cup victory together with Giorgio Di Centa in the team sprint in Lahti . At the peak of the season, the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1997 in Trondheim , he came 20th in the 30 km freestyle. At the end of the season he achieved 28th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Long Distance World Cup. In the following season he came in the points seven times in the World Cup. His best result was seventh place in the 30 km freestyle in Kawgolowo and thus finished 23rd in the overall World Cup. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , he was ninth in the 50 km freestyle. At the beginning of the 1998/99 season he ran in Muonio in third place with the relay. In the further course of the season he reached seven points in the individual World Cup and at the end of the season he was 26th in the overall World Cup. In November 1999 he won his second World Cup victory with the relay in Kiruna . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2001 he came in 50th place over 15 km classic and 30th place over 30 km classic. He completed his last world cup race in January 2004 at Marcialonga over 70 km classic, which he finished in 37th place. From the 2000/01 season until his last active season 2007/08, he mainly started in the Cross-Country Marathon Cup . He achieved a podium finish for the first time in March 2001 with second place in the Engadin Skimarathon . In the 2001/02 season he was fourth in the Transjurassienne and second in the Marcialonga. He also won the American Birkebeiner and finished first in the overall standings at the end of the season. In the 2003/04 season he came third at La Sgambeda and at the Engadin Skimarathon, making it 13th overall. Pozzi also won the Toblach – Cortina three times (2000, 2006, 2007) and twice the Gsieser-Tal-Lauf (2005,2007).
