Distribution area of the Rose Mountain Amazonia

The species is relatively common in the undergrowth and the middle strata of very humid forests and on their edges in the lowlands and in the mountain foothills in northwestern Ecuador. It is most common in the province of Esmeraldas , the adjacent province of Imbabura and the northwest of the province of Pichincha . Etymology and history of research

Adolphe Boucard described the rose mountain amazil under the name Polyerata rosenbergi . The type specimen came from the Río Dagua and was collected by William Frederick Henry Rosenberg (1868–1957), to whom the species name is dedicated. The genus Amazilia was introduced by Lesson in 1843 for the gold -masked hummingbird , the striped -tailed hummingbird , the cinnamon-bellied amazilie , the blue-throated star hummingbird and the longuemare sun nymph . The name comes from a novel by Jean-François Marmontel , who reported on an Inca heroine named Amazili in Les Incas, Ou La Destruction De L'Empire Du Pérou .
