Michael Aebersold (born January 18, 1962 in Bern ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). He has been a member of the Bern city government since January 1, 2017 and heads the Directorate for Finance, Human Resources and IT. Between 2010 and 2016 he took a seat on the Grand Council , the cantonal parliament.

biography

Aebersold obtained a C-Matura at the Neufeld grammar school in Bern in 1982 . In 1993 he completed his chemistry studies at the University of Bern with a dissertation on "Exchange Interactions in Transition Metal and Rare Earth Clusters: Inelastic Neutron Scattering and Optical Spectroscopy" as Dr. phil. nat. from. In 1994 he did postdoctoral research at the Université de Paris Sud and at the Center des Etudes Nucléaires (CEN) in Saclay (France). After completing his academic training, Aebersold worked from 1994 until his election as a local councilor in the Federal Office of Energy . Initially as a research assistant, from 2006 as Head of the Radioactive Waste Disposal Section and, since 2011, also as Deputy Head of the Legal, Hydropower and Waste Management Department.

Aebersold is married and has two grown children from his wife's first marriage.

politics

From 2001 to 2010 Aebersold represented the SP in the Bern City Council, and from 2005 to 2010 as a member of the parliamentary committee. Between 2010 and 2016 he took a seat on the Grand Council , where he was President of the SP-Juso-PSA parliamentary group from 2012 until his resignation. Aebersold was elected to the municipal council on November 27, 2016.

Cheap housing, equal opportunities for men and women, and contemporary employment conditions are among his political priorities, along with healthy city finances.
