The Shaler cliffs are a series of up to 1000 m high cliffs in the East Antarctic Coatsland . In the Shackleton Range they tower 3 km east-southeast of the Charpentier Pyramid in the northern part of the Herbert Mountains .
Aerial photographs were taken in 1967 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey took from 1968 to 1971 surveys before. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the cliffs on January 5, 1972 after the American geologist Nathaniel Shaler (1841-1906).
