Julija Vladimirovna Chekaljowa ( Russian Юлия Владимировна Чекалёва , transliteration : Julija Vladimirovna Čekalëva ; born February 6, 1984 in Vologda , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is a Russian cross-country skier .

Career

Chekaljowa made her debut in the World Cup at the Skiathlon in Oberstdorf on January 21, 2006 , where she finished 19th straight away in the points. In the following season she took part in a Nordic World Ski Championships for the first time in Sapporo , where her best placement was a 16th place over 10 kilometers freestyle. She was also part of the Russian squad at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo and achieved sixth place in the relay as the best result. In the same winter, she competed in her best World Cup season to date , finishing 16th in the overall and 14th in the distance World Cup.

After being unable to compete for a year because of her pregnancy, she returned to the World Cup at the start of the 2012/13 season . As second in the skiathlon at the pre-Olympic World Cup in Sochi , she achieved a podium place in a World Cup race for the first time this winter. With another podium over 30 kilometers of freestyle on Holmenkollen and a few other top ten placements, she finished twelfth in the overall World Cup and ninth in the World Cup distance at the end of the season.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in the Val di Fiemme region , Chekaljowa first won bronze over 10 kilometers in the free technique and two days later, as the final runner of the Russian quartet, played a major role in winning the bronze medal in the relay.

In the 2016/17 season, Chekaljowa took sixth place in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and tenth place in the 2016/17 Tour de Ski . Her best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti were seventh place in the skiathlon and fifth place with the relay. At the end of the season she came in 23rd place at the World Cup final in Québec and reached 11th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Distance World Cup.
