Bauer started his international career in FIS races in 2005 . From 2006 he started in the B-World Cup of Nordic Combined. At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Kranj he reached the 26th place in the sprint and 28th place in the Gundersen. In the team competition he reached seventh place with the team. A year later at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Tarvisio he reached 14th place in Gundersen and 24th place in sprint. With the team he just missed the medal ranks with fourth place. Also in Zakopane 2008 he only reached fourth place with the team. On November 29, 2008, Bauer made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in Kuusamo . In his first season he was able to win his first World Cup points. He also succeeded in doing this in the following season. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , Bauer achieved 43rd place in the individual on the normal hill and 21st place in the individual on the large hill. In the team competition he finished tenth together with Alessandro Pittin , Giuseppe Michielli and Lukas Runggaldier . The 2009/10 season he ended then with five World Cup points on points with Maxime Laheurte on the 61st place in the overall World Cup standings. On January 12, 2014, Bauer won his first and only Continental Cup competition in Høydalsmo .
