Marco Grigoli (born April 27, 1991 in Samedan ) is a former Swiss ski jumper .

Career

Grigoli, who competes for SC Alpina St. Moritz , made his international debut in 2004 at FIS jumping . At the Junior World Championships in 2005 in Rovaniemi he reached the 12th place and 64th place in individual jumping with the team. In December 2006 he made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Engelberg and finished jumping in 70th place. A short time later at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Tarvisio , he reached 42nd place in the individual.

From 2008 he was a permanent member of the Swiss B squad and regularly competed in the Continental Cup. At the Junior World Championship in 2008 in Štrbské Pleso , he was again part of the Swiss squad. In the team competition he landed with the team in 11th place. In the individual on the normal hill, he jumped to 48th place. Two years later at the Junior World Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , he was able to improve his performance further and reached 19th place.

On February 3rd, 2010 Grigoli made his debut in the ski jumping world cup in Klingenthal . After qualifying with 38th place, he reached 39th place in the competition. He was also able to qualify regularly in the following competitions, but did not win any points. On March 6, 2010 he reached ninth place with the team in Lahti . In the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2010 he won two points and was able to place himself on the 50th place in the overall ranking. At the Swiss Ski Jumping Championships in Einsiedeln in 2010 , Grigoli von der Normalschanze won the bronze medal behind Andreas Küttel and Simon Ammann and also won the junior ranking. At the FIS Cup in Einsiedeln he was second in the first competition and won the second competition.

At the beginning of the 2010/2011 season he was able to qualify for the competition several times, but could not reach the second round. After finishing seventh and 15th at the Alpencup in Seefeld in Tirol , he was able to achieve a podium finish in the Continental Cup for the first time in third at the Continental Cup on December 27, 2010 in Engelberg . At the 2011 Junior World Championships in Otepää , Estonia , he just jumped past the podium with fifth place.

At the World Cup competition in Sapporo, Japan on January 26th, 2012 Grigoli reached the second round of the 30 best jumpers for the first time and with 25th place finally collected his first six World Cup points. A month later he won his first Continental Cup show jumping on the Malinka in Wisła, Poland . A little later, with 15th place on March 8, 2012 in Trondheim, he achieved his best ever World Cup result. He ended the 2011/12 season with 22 points in 58th place overall.

In the summer of 2012, Grigoli missed out on top positions in the first competitions in the Continental Cup as well as in the Ski Jumping Grand Prix . In the Grand Prix he could only prevail in Hakuba and collected first points as 22nd. After he achieved a good position in Almaty as 13th, he clearly missed qualifying in Hinzenbach and Klingenthal . Grigoli finished the Summer Grand Prix in 48th place overall.

After Grigoli missed the qualification for the individual competitions at the beginning of the 2012/13 season in Lillehammer , Kuusamo and Sotschi and also remained 31st without winning points in Engelberg, he switched back to the B squad and therefore jumped again in the Continental Cup from the end of December . However, he remained there without any great success. In January he was used again in the World Cup in Sapporo , but reached 45th and 53rd place again without World Cup points.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he reached jumping from the large hill as 29th of the qualification, but was eliminated from the competition after the first round and ended up on 42nd place. With the team he took 10th place in the team competition. In the summer of 2013, Grigoli started again in the FIS Cup for lack of success in the Continental and World Cup and won a total of three competitions in Villach and Einsiedeln .

Also for the 2013/14 season Grigoli was part of the B-squad in the Continental Cup after he failed to score points at the World Cups in Klingenthal, Lillehammer and Engelberg at the beginning of the year and only achieved two top 10 placements in the team competitions with the team. In January, after good placements in the Continental Cup in Sapporo, he was again in the A-squad, but, as before, again missed the points. At the end of the 2013/14 season in Planica, after missing the qualification in the individual competition, he was used again in the team competition and finished eighth with the team.

In December 2014, Grigoli sustained a serious foot injury when qualifying for the World Cup in Engelberg, in which he clearly missed the rankings as 63rd, which resulted in three operations and six months of crutches. This was his last international jumping, about a year and a half later he officially ended his career in March 2016 after persistent pain as a result of the injury.
