Melanie Faißt (born February 12, 1990 in Titisee-Neustadt , Baden-Württemberg ) is a former German ski jumper .

Career

Melanie Faißt was born in Titisee-Neustadt as the daughter of Klaus, a Nordic combined competitor in the World Cup, and Andrea Faißt, a cross-country skier and soccer player. Her brother Manuel Faißt, who is three years younger than him, is a Nordic combined athlete.

She started ski jumping at the age of seven. In the 2003/2004 season, she took part in FIS races for the first time, where she was able to place in the midfield. The athlete became German champion in 2005 at the age of 15. In the 2005/2006 season she was able to place herself in the top ten for the first time in competitions in the Continental Cup (COC) , the then highest competition class in women's ski jumping. On August 11, 2005, she finished in Pöhla as the best German athlete in seventh place. At the following competition in Meinerzhagen on August 14, 2005 she was sixth. These good results secured Faißt the seventh overall place in the FIS Ladies Tour , a series of competitions similar to the Four Hills Tournament with four venues in Germany and Austria. In the overall ranking of the Continental Cup, she finished 20th at the end of the season.

At her first Junior World Championship in 2006 in Kranj , Slovenia , she finished eleventh. A year later, she finished eighth in Tarvisio, Italy . On January 23, 2008, Faißt achieved fourth place at the COC jumping in Toblach, the best result of her career up to that point. At the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Zakopane , Poland , she just missed her first international medal in fourth. At the German championship held in Oberhof in August 2008 , she and her club mate Magdalena Schnurr won gold in the team competition. At the COC summer jumping competitions in 2009, she achieved a podium place for the first time on August 12th in Pöhla with second place. Two days later in Oberwiesenthal she was third.

Faißt set up her personal best of 138 meters in the winter of 2009 in Titisee-Neustadt, where she competed as a pre-wrestler in the men's Continental Cup. However, she had the opportunity to start with considerably more attempts. At her fourth Junior World Championship in 2010 in Hinterzarten , she finished 11th.

In the 2010/11 season , Faisst developed into the best German ski jumper in the B-team of the German Ski Association (DSV) : At the Continental Cup on January 8, 2011, she jumped third on the converted Langenwaldschanze in Schonach in the Black Forest . At that time, she was the only one in the DSV squad with a ticket for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in the Norwegian capital Oslo . There she was able to place herself as the best German participant with 9th place in the individual jumping on the normal hill.

In the 2011/12 season , the ski jumping World Cup was held for women for the first time. At the opening competition in Lillehammer , Faißt achieved 3rd place. In the further course of the season she placed herself in the top ranks several times, although not again on the podium. At the end of the season, she finished 8th in the World Cup.

In the summer of 2012, Faißt showed a form deficit compared to her teammates. An operation on the inner meniscus in April as well as eight weeks of basic training with the Bundeswehr had thrown her out of her rhythm. In addition, two training falls in Oberstdorf took away her confidence in her flying skills. As a result, she gave up the Summer Grand Prix .

In the 2012/13 Ski Jumping World Cup , she was unable to build on her performance from the previous year. She finished the World Cup in 25th place, her best individual result was 14th place. In the 2013 Summer Grand Prix she only jumped in midfield.

Faiasst set himself the goal of qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . After she had missed this with moderate performance in the 2013/14 season, she announced her resignation on January 16, 2014.

Personal

Melanie Faißt graduated from the Furtwangen ski boarding school in 2009 at the business school of the Robert-Gerwig-Schule in Furtwangen. After an annual internship in Baiersbronn, she began a bachelor's degree in curative education at the Catholic University of Freiburg in October 2010 . At the time of the 2013 Winter Universiade , she was a student teacher at the Weingarten University of Education .

Together with the snowboarder Isabella Laböck and the ski crosser Sabrina Weilharter , Melanie Faißt can be seen in nudes in the German-language March 2013 issue of Playboy magazine .
