Joni Karjalainen (born May 29, 1987 in Kitee ) is a former Finnish Nordic combined skier who competed for Lahden Hiihtoseura when he was active .

Career

In 2007 he took part in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2007 in the Italian municipality of Tarvisio . He started there in the individual competition and, having only finished 31st after jumping, was able to improve to 17th place in cross-country skiing. On November 29, 2009 he made his debut at the World Cup in Kuusamo, Germany, in the 2009/10 World Cup and finished his first race in 51st place. He clearly missed his first World Cup points.

He was nominated by Suomen Hiihtoliitto for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, Norway , and was allowed to take part in the individual competition on the normal hill and in the team competition on the normal hill. In the individual competition he took 42nd place after jumping and was able to improve to 38th place in cross-country skiing. Together with Hannu Manninen , Janne Ryynänen and Eetu Vähäsöyrinki he formed the Finnish relay team, which took seventh place in the team competition. On March 5, 2011, he started in the Continental Cup of Nordic Combined at the Continental Cup in Kuopio, his home country . Together with Eetu Vähäsöyrinki he started in the team sprint and the two Finns took second place behind the duo from Austria.
