Elizabeth Stephen (born January 12, 1987 in Barre (Vermont) ) is a former American cross-country skier .

Career

From 2004 to 2009 Stephen mainly participated in the Nor-Am Cup and the US Super Tour. At the US cross-country skiing championships in 2006 in Soldier Hollow , she won gold over 5 km freestyle and bronze over 10 km classic. She made her World Cup debut in February 2007 in Davos . There she finished 48th in the 10 km freestyle. At the US Cross Country Ski Championships in Houghton in 2008 , she won silver over 5 km freestyle, twice gold in Fairbanks in the 15 km pursuit race and 30 km mass start. At the U23 World Championships in 2008 in Mals , she won bronze in the 15 km mass start race. At the 2009 US Cross Country Ski Championships in Anchorage , she got bronze over 5 km freestyle and gold twice in Fairbanks in the 7.5 km pursuit race and the 30 km mass start race. Her best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec were 15th place in the 15 km skiathlon race and 13th place with the relay. For the first time she won World Cup points in the 2008/09 season in Vancouver with 24th place in the skiathlon.

At the US cross-country skiing championship in Anchorage in 2010 , she was able to win bronze over 10 km freestyle. Her best placement at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver was 49th place over 10 km freestyle. At the US cross-country skiing championship in Rumford in 2011, she won gold in the 20 km freestyle. 16th place in the 30 km mass start race and ninth place in the relay were her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo . The following season she took part in the Tour de Ski , which she finished in 24th place. At the US cross-country skiing championship in 2012 in Craftsbury , she won bronze in the 30 km mass start race.

In the 2012/13 season she reached 15th place in the Tour de Ski . With an eighth place in skiathlon and a ninth place in the 30 km mass start race, she made it into the top ten in the World Cup for the first time. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , she reached fifth place over 10 km freestyle and fourth place with the relay. In the 2013/14 season , she finished seventh in the Tour de Ski . Her best placings at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 12th place in skiathlon and ninth place in the relay. She finished the season with 17th place in the overall World Cup ranking and 15th place in the distance ranking. At the US cross-country skiing championship in 2014 in Kincaid, she won silver in the 30 km mass start.

After a weak start to the 2014/15 season with 29th place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer , she came fifth overall at the Tour de Ski 2015 . At the following World Cup race in Rybinsk she came in second place over 10 km freestyle. Her best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun were tenth place over 10 km freestyle and fourth place with the relay. She finished the season in tenth place in the overall World Cup and seventh place in the distance ranking. After 59th place at the Nordic Opening in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, she took third place with the relay in Lillehammer. At the Tour de Ski 2016 , she achieved 19th place. She ran the third fastest time on the final stage in the Fiemme Valley . At the following World Cup in Nové Město she was second with the relay. At the end of the season she reached 33rd place in the overall World Cup. In the summer of 2016 she won the 5 km freestyle at the Australia / New Zealand Cup in Snow Farm . In the World Cup season 2016/17 she finished 38th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and 14th in the Tour de Ski 2016/17 . The second fastest time ran on the final stage. In February 2017, she took second place in the skiathlon at the World Cup in Pyeongchang . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2017 , she achieved 25th place in the 30 km mass start race, 20th place in the skiathlon and fourth place in the relay. She finished the season in 28th place in the overall World Cup and in 22nd place in the Distance World Cup. After finishing 56th in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she finished 16th in the Tour de Ski 2017/18 . At the season highlight, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, she ran in 30th place in the 10 km freestyle. At the World Cup finals in Falun , she took 50th place. After the season she ended her career.
