Alexander Eduardowitsch Panschinski ( Russian Александр Эдуардович Панжинский ; born March 16, 1989 in Khabarovsk ) is a Russian cross-country skier who specializes in sprint competitions.

Career

After good results at junior level Panschinski started for the first time in the 2007/08 season in the Eastern Europe Cup , where he has so far won two wins. In 2009 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Le Praz-de-Lys-Sommand , where he was able to prevail in the sprint final against all opponents and won the gold medal. This enabled him to start the World Cup sprint in Trondheim, Norway . Surprisingly, he clearly qualified for the quarter-finals and finished 17th. He is one of the few cross-country skiers who were able to win World Cup points when they first played in the most important cross-country skiing racing series. Right at the beginning of the 2009/10 season Panschinski showed his potential in Kuusamo, Finland , when he reached the semifinals and sprinted tenth place there. It was followed by further top ten placements in sprint races during the season. At the season highlight, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he won silver in the sprint. He finished the season in 16th place in the sprint classification. In the following season he could not repeat his strong performances in the World Cup. The eleventh place in March 2011 in Lahti was his best result of the season. In January 2011 he won gold at the U23 World Championships in Otepää . A month later, he and Nikita Krjukow won bronze in the team sprint at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo . He achieved his best position in a World Cup race so far in March 2012 in Drammen with fourth place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he finished 26th in the sprint. In the 2014/15 season he won six World Cup competitions, three top ten placements and thus finished 23rd in the Sprint World Cup. At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , he finished 34th in the sprint. In the following season he came in the points three times in the World Cup and at the end of the season he finished 30th in the Sprint World Cup. His best result was sixth place in the sprint in Drammen. The following year he ran at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang to 11th place in the sprint and third at the Murmansk Skimarathon and second at the Fossavatn Ski Marathon over 50 km classic.
