Mitja Oranič (born April 3, 1986 in Kranj ) is a former Slovenian Nordic combined skier .

Career

Oranič made his international debut in 2001 in the Nordic Combined B World Cup. At the Junior World Championships 2003 in Sollefteå he reached 5th place with the team, in Gundersen he landed in 45th place, in the sprint in 31st place. A year later he managed to improve his results slightly at the Junior World Championships in Stryn . In 2004 and 2005, Oranič also started in FIS races and was able to achieve results in some of the top ten. At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Kranj he reached the 14th place in the sprint and 30th place in the Gundersen. With the team, he again did not get past 4th place and thus just missed the medal ranks. After rising performances, he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on January 13, 2007 in Lago di Tesero . In Sapporo , he was only able to place in the top forty in the 2007 Nordic World Ski Championships in sprint and Gundersen. Even two years later at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he was unable to improve his performance significantly. In the overall ranking of the 2008/09 season , however, he achieved his best result to date with 40th place. At the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships in Kranj in 2009 , he reached fourth place in the team competition and narrowly missed the medal ranks. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver he reached 31st place on the normal hill and 41st place on the large hill. Four years later he finished 37th on the normal hill and 39th on the large hill in the Gundersen competitions at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . Oranič ended his career after the Olympic Games.
