Max Hauke (born August 29, 1992 in Rottenmann ) is a former Austrian cross-country skier .
Career
Hauke took part in junior races until 2012. In the 2011/12 season, he finished fourth in the U20 overall ranking of the Alpen Cup. At the Austrian cross-country skiing championship in 2011, he won silver with the relay and bronze over 30 km. From 2012 to 2014 he mainly competed in the Alpine Cup . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 he reached 14th place in the team sprint and 55th place in the sprint. He ran his first World Cup race in March 2012 in Lahti , which he finished in 69th place in the sprint. At the Austrian cross-country skiing championships in 2012, he won bronze with the relay. His best placement at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme was 45th place over 15 km freestyle. In the same year he won gold three times at the Austrian championships. His best results at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 46th place in the sprint and 16th place in the team sprint.
In the 2014/15 season, Hauke took 89th place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer and 44th place at the Tour de Ski 2015 . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 2015 , he came 42nd place in the skiathlon and 38th place over 15 km freestyle. He finished the Tour de Ski 2016/17 in 38th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2017 , he took 35th place in the 50 km mass start race and 31st place in the skiathlon. His best placings at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang were 27th place in the skiathlon and 13th place in the relay. So far, he has won twelve medals at Austrian championships , including six gold. (Status: end of season 2017/18)
Doping ban 2019
At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 , Hauke and his teammate Dominik Baldauf took sixth place in the classic team sprint in Seefeld in Tyrol on February 24th . In the course of a doping raid ( "Operation Aderlass" ) carried out by the Federal Criminal Police Office together with the public prosecutor for doping offenses in Munich , the then 26-year-old was arrested on the morning of February 27, together with his teammate Baldauf and three other cross-country skiers. When he was arrested, Hauke had a blood doping needle in his arm. After a confession he was released and temporarily banned by the International Ski Federation (FIS) . In July 2019, Hauke was banned by the Austrian Anti-Doping Law Commission (ÖADR) for four years until February 28, 2023.
