Vinzenz Geiger (born July 24, 1997 in Oberstdorf ) is a German Nordic combined athlete . He starts for the SC 1906 Oberstdorf. He has been part of the customs ski team since August 2017 . Geiger became Olympic champion in the team competition with the German team at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Career

Vinzenz Geiger began his international career at the Alpine Cup on September 29th and 30th, 2012 in Oberstdorf , where he finished 50th and 55th. After further regular participation he has won an Alpine Cup competition three times to date. In the Continental Cup Geiger made his debut on 24 and 25 January 2015, the 15th and 21 at the competitions in Planica . In February 2016 he won two wins in this cup in Ramsau . Thanks to further good placements, he finished seventh overall at the end of the 2015/16 season with 459 points.

In the World Cup , Vinzenz Geiger made his debut on December 5th and 6th, 2015 with his participation in two competitions in Lillehammer , in which he finished 31st and 18th.

At the 2016 Junior World Championships in Râșnov, Romania , Geiger took second place in both the normal hill competitions over the ten kilometers and in the team competition with the German team over the 4 × 5 kilometers, winning two silver medals. In the individual competition over the five kilometers, he also came in seventh. At the 2017 Junior World Championships in Soldier Hollow , he won the gold medal in the 5K competition.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 World Cup season , he achieved two seventh and fourth places and stood on the podium for the first time on December 18, 2016 after a third place in Ramsau .

In the season 2017/18 Geiger was on 13 January 2018 the team sprint in the Italian Val di Fiemme together with Eric Frenzel win a race in the World Cup for the first time. At the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , he won gold in the team competition with the team and placed seventh and ninth in the individual competitions.

After Geiger was successful with the relay in Ruka at the beginning of the 2018/19 season , he also achieved his first victory in an individual competition in Val di Fiemme in January 2019 when he left Johannes Rydzek behind on the last climb. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2019 , he finished 14th on the normal hill and twelfth on the large hill at the Gundersen competitions. Together with Rydzek, Eric Frenzel and Fabian Rießle , he won the silver medal in the team competition. Geiger finished the season with fifth place in the overall World Cup ranking.
