Escape from Tarkov is a first-person shooter developed and marketed by Battlestate Games. On December 28, 2016, the game appeared for the first time in a closed alpha version for selected players. Due to the game mechanics that work with collecting loot , the game is also described as a survival and hardcore shooter.

The scenario takes place in the fictional city ​​of Tarkov, a region in northwestern Russia that has become a war zone due to the conflict between a corporation and the Russian government. It is located in a special economic zone between Europe and Russia. Parties involved are the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces , the Internal Forces of Russia and the two private security and military companies United Security (USEC) and Battle Encounter Assault Regiment (BEAR). The player must escape the city by working for one of the organizations.

Trader tasks should contribute to the story, with which the player receives rewards by completing tasks such as collecting items or eliminating opponents and revealing the story.

Gameplay

Escape from Tarkov is a first-person shooter with tactical elements that focuses on long survival. Character enhancements, trading and building bases are an important part of the game. Weapons and equipment can be personalized and the character's abilities can be improved, and loot can be collected and exchanged. There are currently eight different traders available to the player who offer new items by completing tasks and leveling up their own characters. In a skills tree, the player can see the perks and skills he has acquired.

In the game world, the player must fight against other players as well as against computer opponents and come to a saving exit on the map.

Development and publication

On December 28, 2016, the game was released for the first time in a closed alpha version for selected players and in early 2017 an expanded alpha version of the game was released for pre-orderers. The closed beta of the game started on July 27, 2017 and the open beta is planned for 2020.

On February 12, 2018 it was announced that the game would also be playable in German. The translations should come from the community. Other languages ​​such as Spanish and Mexican Spanish, Polish, Italian, Czech, Slovak, Chinese, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, Korean and Japanese are also planned. A gesture system can also be used to communicate non-verbally in the game.

The game is still under development and an exact release date does not exist. Several additional content are planned for pre-order . The game should be chargeable and dispense with free-to-play and micropayment . The developer himself states that he attaches great importance to realism with a lot of training and realistic games.

Adaptation

A book series is planned for the game, which will be devoted to stories from Tarkov. In addition, a forum role-playing game ( text adventure ) for the game was published and moderated in the official Escape from Tarkov forum .

In March 2019, the first episode of a short film for Escape from Tarkov was released, which was very positively received by fans. The second episode followed in August.
