Christian Beetz (born January 23, 1984 in Suhl ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete .
Career
Beginnings in the B World Cup
Deetz began his international career with the start at the Grand Prix of Nordic Combined on August 26, 2000 in Klingenthal , where he ended up being far behind with 48th place. In January 2001 he came for a competition in the B-World Cup of Nordic Combined . Already in his first competition in Klingenthal he was on the top of the podium and was able to win the jumping from the normal hill and the subsequent run over three times five kilometers. From the 2001/02 season he was part of the squad after the success in Klingenthal. After the first competitions in Vuokatti , Taivalkoski and Mobakken were less successful, he was on the podium again after a second place in Planica .
After further mixed results, he won the gold medal in the team mass start together with Florian Schillinger , Tino Edelmann and Björn Kircheisen at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest . In the individual, he landed on 15th place. In the following B World Cups he could not reach any top ranks again and ended the season in 31st place in the overall standings.
Also in the summer of 2002, Beetz failed to win points in three Grand Prix appearances. In the 2002/03 season , however, he surprisingly started with two sixths and a second place in Steamboat Springs . After further good performances in Park City, Beetz made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on January 1, 2003 . After clearly missing the points in Oberhof , Ramsau am Dachstein and Chaux-Neuve , he switched back to the B World Cup. When taking place shortly after the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2003 in Sweden Sollefteå different Beetz in Gundersen over 10 km, but was two days later together with Marco Kuehne repeat Edelmann and Kircheisen his success of 2002 in the team competition and won again gold. In the sprint competition, he was ninth. After the Junior World Championships, Beetz tried again in the World Cup, but was again without points in Oslo and Lahti . Also in the summer of 2003 he remained without winning points in his three starts in the Grand Prix.
In the 2003/04 season , Beetz started after a twelfth place in the sprint with a victory in Gundersen over 15 km in Rovaniemi . He was also on the podium again just two weeks later in Ruhpolding . He then switched to the World Cup again in January 2004 and, after two further unsuccessful starts, was able to win World Cup points for the first time on January 10, 2004 in Seefeld in Tyrol . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2004 in Stryn , Norway , he won silver together with Christian Ulmer as well as Schillinger and Edelmann in the team competition, in the sprint and in the Gundersen competition, he finished in 15th place. In the summer of 2004, Beetz injured himself so badly that he had to take a complete break from the 2004/05 season. At the beginning of the following season 2005/06 he started his B-World Cup comeback successfully with two second places in Steamboat Springs and Park City. After winning a B-World Cup in Lake Placid for the first time since 2003, he switched back to the A-squad and immediately won clear World Cup points in the first competition on December 30, 2005 in Oberhof. He also won points in the other World Cups until the end of January. Despite this, he started again in Karpacz for three competitions successfully in the B World Cup, before he entered the World Cup again at the end of the season, but remained unsuccessful. Despite this failure, he ended up in 34th place in the overall World Cup ranking.
Fight for place in the World Cup squad
Although he won points in the Summer Grand Prix for the first time in the summer of 2006 and achieved second place with the team in Berchtesgaden , he was again not given a permanent place in the A-squad for the 2006/07 season. With two exceptions in December and January, he stayed exclusively in the B World Cup, but was able to convince with podium places and regular placements among the top twenty. At the beginning of the 2007/2008 season he finally got a place in the A-squad of the World Cup. After he finished well behind the points in Kuusamo , he achieved all points in the following World Cups. On January 24th, 2008 he reached the sprint in Zakopane with the sixth place his first and only top 10 result of his career in the World Cup. He finished the season in 32nd place overall. In the summer of 2008 he only started in Hinterzarten and Oberstdorf and was able to win significant Grand Prix points here.
At the beginning of the 2008/2009 season , Beetz tore a cruciate ligament at the World Cup opener in Kuusamo when he fell badly during jumping training. After taking a break as far as Ramsau am Dachstein, he started again in the World Cup from the second competition there, but was unable to build on the successes of the previous season. He then switched to the B World Cup, which has since been renamed the Continental Cup. In the third competition in Neustadt-Hinterzarten he already achieved second place. After another second place in Bischofshofen, he was able to celebrate another victory there in Gundersen from the large hill over 10 km. He achieved this success again at the end of the season in Kuusamo. In the end he finished third in the overall Continental Cup ranking with 623 points.
In the following three years he entered the World Cup again. However, there were no great successes. The best result was a tenth place on January 15, 2011 in Seefeld. After the 2011/12 season, Beetz ended his active career and got a position in the German technical team of the DSV-Kombinierer, where he is responsible for the waxing and testing of cross-country skis.
