Silvi Vrait (* 28. April 1951 in Kehra , Harju County ; † 28. June 2013 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian pop and jazz - singer , among other things, in 1994 at the Euro Vision Song Contest participated.

Life

Until 1968, Silvi Vrait attended the children's music school in Kehra in the piano subject . In 1969 she graduated from high school in Kehra. Until 1974 she studied English and pedagogy at the University of Tartu . From 1976 to 1983 she was employed at the Vanemuine Theater and Opera House in Tartu . She was a teacher at the French Lyceum and at the renowned Georg Ots Music School in Tallinn.

Silvi Vrait's career as a singer began in 1972 with the young talent show Kaks takti ette on Estonian television and in the Käokava program . She was then a soloist and singer in many ensembles of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic and the free Estonia, including Suuk (1973–1975) and Fix (1975–1984, 1995–2003). In 1994 Vrait was the first Estonian to take part in a Eurovision Song Contest final. With the song Nagu merelaine ( German "Like a sea wave") she reached two points and just before Lithuania the penultimate place.

Vrait died on June 28, 2013 in a Tallinn hospital at the age of 62 of complications from a brain tumor. She leaves behind her son Silver Vrait.
