Ott Lepland (born May 17, 1987 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian singer. He represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku ( Azerbaijan ).

Life and music

Ott Lepland has been in the limelight as a singer since 1995. In 1995/1996 four cassettes with (children's) songs that the young artist had recorded were released. Ott Lepland later started a professional jazz and pop career.

In autumn 2009 Lepland won the third season of Eesti otsib superstaari , the Estonian edition of “ Deutschland sucht den Superstar ”. He won 100,000  Estonian crowns and a recording deal with the renowned Crunch Industry label . In 2010 his first professional album was released under the name Ott Lepland . A year later the album Laulan ma sind followed ( something like "I sing for you").

In 2010, Ott Lepland appeared in the Tallinn Children's and Youth Theater in the musical Keskkoolimuusikal , which is based on the US high school musical . Lepland played the role of Troy Bolton.

In 2011 Ott took part in the TV show Laulupealinn (about: Capital of Singing), in which Ott represented the Estonian city of Kärdla. He performed every week with other partners from Kärdla or Hiiumaa district, including his grandmother, nephew and the local choir. Lepland won the show and Kärdla is now the Singing Capital of Estonia .

On March 3, 2012, Lepland won the Estonian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku. He represented Estonia there with the Estonian-language song Kuula ("Hear!"). The music is by Ott Lepland, the text by Aapo Ilves . On May 24, 2012 Lepland qualified for the final of the Song Contest, where he finally reached sixth place with 120 points.

From February 2012 Ott Lepland was also seen as an actor in the cinema in Estonia. He plays one of the leading roles in the Estonian crime comedy Vasaku jala reede (directed by Andres Kõpper and Arun Tamm ).

In December 2012 his third studio album Öö mu canul käib (about "The night follows me") and a live DVD "Ott Lepland - ETV Live" with a concert recording from the Russian cultural center in Tallinn on November 14, 2012 were released.

Since 2013 Lepland has also been part of the Vallatud Vestid group. The band, whose music style is a mix of pop, rock and folk music, released the first joint album Lugusid meestest ja naistest (stories of women and men) in February 2013 , from which the single Jõesäng (river bed) was released. The second joint album Kelmid ja pühakud (crooks and saints) was released in December 2013 and contains the single Lumisel teel (snowy street).

In May 2015, his fourth studio album Siinpoolne was released .
