Birgit Õigemeel (born September 24, 1988 in Kohila , Estonia ) is an Estonian pop singer and the winner of Eesti otsib superstaari (Estonia is looking for the superstar) in 2007.

Life

Birgit Õigemeel grew up in the village of Vilivere in the Estonian municipality of Kohila , Rapla County and received a school education with a focus on music and theater at the Vanalinna Haridus College in Tallinn . Long after her breakthrough, she continued to perform as a soloist for the Tallinna Gospelkoor . In 2007 she was named the winner of the first season of the casting show Eesti otsib superstaari .

Her first single Kas tead, mida tähendab was released on October 3, 2007 and was voted the second best Estonian single of 2007 by Raadio 2 . Birgit Õigemeel's debut album was released on January 24, 2008. The three radio singles 365 Days , Homme and Ise that were released in the course of 2008 are also taken from this album . With 365 Days Birgit took part in the Estonian qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 and came in third place.

In November 2008 Õigemeel's second album, Ilus aeg ("Schöne Zeit"), was released. There are Estonian and international Christmas carols on it. The third album Teineteisel pool from 2009 mainly contains danceable club music. Most singles are only released as radio singles, not as over-the-counter CDs. All publications have so far been limited to Estonia. On February 25, 2012 she took part in the second semifinals of the Eesti Lauls 2012 . Their song is called You're Not Alone . She was able to qualify for the final on March 3, 2012 and took seventh place there. In the following year she took part again and won with her song Et uus saaks alguse against nine competitors and was therefore allowed to compete for Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 . She was five months pregnant and gave birth to her child in October 2013. She landed in 20th place.
