The district of Rapla ( German Rappel ; Estonian Rapla maakond or Raplamaa ) is a district (maakond) in Estonia .
It is located in the western interior of the country and borders Järva County in the east, Pärnumaa in the south, Läänemaa in the west , and Harjumaa in the north . It was formed in 1990 from the Rapla Rajon, which was formed under Soviet rule in 1950, and parts of the neighboring Rajons.
The western part of the district is mostly flat and dominated by agriculture, while the eastern part is hilly and densely forested.
The district has a partnership with the district of Kaiserslautern , Rhineland-Palatinate .
