Kaiu (German: Kay ) was a rural community in the Estonian district of Rapla with an area of 261 km². It had 1630 inhabitants (2005). Kaiu was about 60 km from Tallinn and 25 km from Rapla .
Kaiu was first mentioned in 1241 and until 1561 belonged to the convent of the Cistercians of Tallinn. In addition to the main town of Kaiu, the rural community now includes the villages of Kuimetsa, Karitsa, Kasvandu, Oblu, Põlliku, Suurekivi, Tamsi, Tolla, Toomja, Vahastu, Vana-Kaiu and Vaopere.
