Käru (German: Kerro ) was a rural community in the Estonian district of Rapla with an area of 214.91 km². It had 676 inhabitants (January 1, 2009).
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1435. In addition to the main town Käru, the rural community also included the villages of Jõeküla, Kullimaa, Kõdu, Kädva, Kändliku, Lauri, Lungu and Sonni.
The original Käru manor house was built in 1632, a new manor house at the beginning of the 19th century . Karl von Ditmar (1822-1892), one of the most important explorers of Kamchatka, lived there since 1857 . The manor house was burned down by insurgents during the Russian Revolution on December 17, 1905 . The building, which was later rebuilt, is now used as a school.
