Juuru (German: Jörden ) was a rural community in the Estonian district of Rapla with an area of 152.4 km². It had 1572 inhabitants (January 1, 2011). It was 15 km from Rapla .
In addition to the main town of Juuru (597 inhabitants), the rural community also included the villages of Atla, Hõreda, Härgla, Jaluse, Järlepa, Lõiuse, Mahtra, Maidla, Orguse, Pirgu and Vankse.
The parish of Jörden included the manor complexes of Groß-Attel (Atla), Herküll (Härgla), Hördel (Hõreda), Jerlep (Järlepa), Machters ( Mahtra ), Kuimetz (Kuimetsa), Maidel (Maidla), Pirgu, Ummern (Umbru) , Pöllik (Pölliku), Klein-Attel (Kiru), Karrits (Karritsu), Hähl (Ingliste), Payel (Pae), Purgel (Purila), some of which are well preserved.
Personalities
Arnold Friedrich Johann Knüpffer (1777–1843), clergyman and researcher of the Estonian language and folklore, was born in Juuru .
