Kalle Keituri (born April 25, 1984 in Lahti ) is a former Finnish ski jumper .

Career

Keituri started ski jumping in 1990. He first appeared internationally at the Continental Cup competition on November 17, 2001 in Kuusamo , where he immediately jumped into the points with a 23rd place. His first podium in the Continental Cup followed on January 12, 2002 at the competition in Bischofshofen , two weeks later he won the gold medal with the Finnish team and the bronze medal in the individual at the Junior World Championships in Schonach in the Black Forest .

On March 1st, 2002 he made his debut in the Lahti Ski Games in the World Cup, and in the competition on his home hill, the Salpausselkä-Schanze , he immediately achieved World Cup points with 19th place. Nevertheless, it was not until the 2004/2005 season that he was able to record more than one World Cup appearance per season. This season he also set his personal best when he made a flight of 205.5 meters on March 19, 2005 in Planica, Slovenia . In the following winters, the Finn only made sporadic appearances in the World Cup and even considered retiring after the end of the 2007/2008 season. It was not until the 2008/2009 season that he became a permanent member of the World Cup team, achieved his first two World Cup victories with the team, one of them on "semi-home" soil when the Finnish team took part in the team ski flying on February 15, 2009 Oberstdorf won. Keituri celebrated his first win with the team on November 29, 2008 in Kuusamo. His best individual result was dated January 31, 2009, when he finished fourth at the World Cup in Sapporo, Japan . He finished his first complete World Cup season in 21st place in the overall World Cup. At the 2009 World Championships in Liberec , Czech Republic , he took sixth place with the Finnish team in the team competition on the large hill. In the individual competitions he finished 29th (normal hill) and 31st (large hill). This was his only World Cup participation. On September 25, 2010 he won the Finnish championship title on the large hill in Lahti .

At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , he reached 22nd place in jumping from the normal hill and, with the Finnish team, was fourth behind Norway and narrowly missed Olympic gold. In 2011 there were reports of a possible end of career. As Keituri announced shortly afterwards, however, in the future he will concentrate on studying design in addition to ski jumping, but will continue to be active as a ski jumper.

Keituri is married to a German. The couple has lived in Thal in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen since October 2011 . He started with a double club membership, belonged to both the club of his hometown Lahti, the Lahden Hiihtoseura and the SC Oberstdorf . Since 2012 he has started for Ounasvaaran Hiihtoseura , who is based in Rovaniemi , but is still a member of SC Oberstdorf , for which he says he is not allowed to compete in international competitions due to his membership of the Finnish Ski Association .

At the beginning of April 2016, Keituri announced the end of his active ski jumping career.

Keituri currently lives in his hometown of Lahti.
