Yukio Sakano ( Japanese 坂 野 幸 夫 , Sakano Yukio ; born February 3, 1976 in Yonezawa , Yamagata Prefecture ) is a former Japanese ski jumper .

Career

Sakano was accepted into the Japanese national team in 1997 at the age of 20 and started in a World Cup competition for the first time on January 18, 1997. At the jumping in Sapporo , Japan he could only reach the 40th place on the normal hill. After two more unsuccessful jumps, he was deleted from the A national team and started in the Continental Cup and FIS races . Only in jumping in Japan in Sapporo or Hakuba did he start as part of the national group in World Cup competitions.

Sakano achieved his best result in a World Cup competition with an 11th place on the large hill when jumping on January 21, 2006 on the Ōkurayama hill in Sapporo. At the end of the 2005/06 World Cup season he achieved the best position of his career in the overall World Cup with 44th place.

His last World Cup competition so far, he competed in the national group on January 31, 2009 in Sapporo.
