life and work
Ingo Taubhorn was born in Dortmund in 1957 as the son of Helmut and Margret Taubhorn. Taubhorn attended grammar school in Dortmund until 1977, followed by an internship at the Dortmund City Theaters in the field of acting and dramaturgy . An orientation and experimentation phase with theater work, unsuccessful attempts at entrance exams in acting and directing, led to the beginning of studies at the FH Dortmund in 1980 in the subject film . Since 1982 Taubhorn has been more interested in photography and graduated from there in 1985.
Right from the start, Taubhorn reflected on photography as a whole, in addition to his own art. The scientific debate led to the initially freelance work as a curator.
In 1994 Ingo Taubhorn was appointed a member of the German Society for Photography (DGPh). Since 2003 he has been working for the House of Photography - Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, since 2006 as a curator.
Taubhorn's artistic work revolves around the topics of homosexuality , family and aging. It is important to Taubhorn, such as B. in "Mensch Mann" not only to communicate with the model via the camera, but also in the form of direct addressing. He also works with the medium of film. For example, he has taken on the assistant director role in Rosa von Praunheim's film Der Einstein des Sex (1999); But I also created a whole series of my own video works .
Taubhorn is a member of the jury for the Vonovia Award for Photography .
