Vitaly Ihorowytsch Schumbarez ( Ukrainian Віталій Ігорович Шумбарець ; born July 14, 1983 in Kremenez ) is a former Ukrainian ski jumper .

Career

In January 2003 Schumbarez made his first international appearance at an FIS race . Appearances in the Continental Cup followed ; initially sporadically, since 2005/06 regularly.

In the 2007/08 season Schumbarez reached the top 50 round of a World Cup event for the first time when he survived the qualification for jumping on December 13th in the Villach Alpine Arena . He succeeded in doing this again for the jumping that took place the next day.

In the World Cup, Schumbarez has reached the points three times, with a 21st place in ski jumping in Sapporo on January 17th, 2010 being his best ever World Cup result. His best placement with the Ukrainian team he achieved on November 29, 2008 in the team competition in Kuusamo , when he finished 9th and last place together with Volodymyr Boschtschuk , Oleksandr Lasarowytsch and Volodymyr Weredjuk .

Even before he was able to achieve his first World Cup points on March 20, 2009 in Planica as 25th, he had indicated his potential with a 33rd place in ski flying on the Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill in Oberstdorf on February 14, 2009. His personal best is synonymous with the Ukrainian record and is 189.5 m, established in the qualification for flying in Planica.

Schumbarez has so far participated in four Nordic World Ski Championships. In 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he was the only one of the Ukrainian ski jumpers to compete exclusively in the team competition and was 13th and last there. In 2005 in Oberstdorf, the Ukraine team should be part of the team competition again, but participation was withdrawn shortly before the start. Schumbarez 'most successful World Championships so far was the 2007 in Sapporo, where he finished 41st on the normal hill and 51st on the large hill. In the team, however, he was only 13th and last. His teammates were respectively Volodymyr Boschtschuk and Olexandr Lasarowytsch, supplemented in 2003 by Igor Boyschuk , in 2005 by Mykola Kozlov and in 2007 by the Nordic combined athlete Volodymyr Tratschuk . At the 2009 World Championships , he jumped from the large hill to 35th place after not having qualified for jumping from the normal hill. He could not take part in the team competition because Ukraine did not provide a team.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Schumbarez retired in jumping on the normal hill as 45th after the first round. In the qualification on the large hill he could not qualify as 51st for the final. Ukraine could not start in the team competition because Schumbarez was unable to use after a training fall two days earlier.

Schumbarez had his best placings outside of the World Cup as the winner of the FIS Cup jumping competitions in Štrbské Pleso on January 9, 2011 and in Szczyrk on August 9, 2011. He achieved his best Continental Cup result in Wisła on September 12, 2009 and on February 26, 2012 with twelfth place. At the Ukrainian championships in March 2012 in Vorokhta , he was able to win the gold medal both individually and with the Tarnopol team. He ended his career after the 2012/13 season.
