Jure Šinkovec (born July 3, 1985 in Ljubljana ) is a former Slovenian ski jumper .

Career

Jure Šinkovec first competed in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup (COC) in February 2004 . In his third competition on February 22nd, 2004 in Iron Mountain , he was able to win COC points with a twelfth place. In the following winter of 2004/05 he took part in several COC competitions, but never made it to the second round. Nevertheless, he was allowed to participate in the ski flying in Planica at the end of the season of the World Cup through the national group . Although he could not qualify for the competition, he set his personal best of 193.5 meters in the third training round on March 17, 2005.

After showing mediocre performance at the beginning of the 2005 summer jumping competitions within the framework of the Continental Cup, he was able to improve and at the beginning of August in Lillehammer achieved his first podium positions with a second and a third place. Due to the good performance he was allowed to compete in the Summer Grand Prix , where he achieved a place in the top 10 in a first-class competition for the first and only time with a tenth place in Hakuba, Japan (as of October 2008).

After he disappointed at the beginning of the Ski Jumping World Cup 2005/06 with a 33rd and a 50th place in Kuusamo , he was demoted to the Continental Cup team. With a second place in early January 2006 when jumping from the normal hill in Planica, however, he managed to recommend himself again for the Slovenian World Cup team. In a jump from the Ōkurayama-Schanze in Sapporo , he was able to achieve his first World Cup points with a 21st place. During the rest of the season he continued to compete in the World Cup, but could no longer place himself in the points.

At the 2006 Summer Grand Prix he managed a twelfth place in Kranj , otherwise he only placed in the lower midfield. During the following winter season 2006/07 Šinkovec shuttled back and forth between the World Cup and the Continental Cup, but could not show any convincing performances in either of the two competition series. After his results in the COC improved in the summer of 2007, he took part in some jumping competitions in the Summer Grand Prix 2007, but was only able to achieve placings between 35th and 50th place.

After he started the Continental Cup in the winter of 2007/08 with poor performance, his form improved and on January 12, 2008 he won the jumping in Sapporo. After he also showed good performances at the following Continental Cups in Zakopane and Hinterzarten , he was reappointed to the Slovenian World Cup team. Since he always missed the second round at the World Cups, he was relegated to the COC team for the summer of 2008, where, apart from a second place in Velenje, he only achieved placements in the midfield. On December 14th, 2008, he achieved his best World Cup ranking in jumping in Pragelato, Italy, with 16th place. Nevertheless, he was not used in World Cup competitions for almost three years.

After winning a Continental Cup competition in Kranj in July 2011 and finishing second in the Grand Prix competition in Almaty, Kazakhstan in August , Šinkovec has been jumping regularly in the World Cup again since the beginning of the 2011/12 season . At the team competition on December 10, 2011 on the Čerťák large hill in Harrachov , he and the Slovenian team made it to third place and thus his first podium finish in the World Cup. His best ever World Cup result in an individual competition was achieved with 11th place on January 28, 2012 in Sapporo, Japan. On February 19, 2012, he won the team competition with the Slovenian team on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill and not only won the first World Cup of his career. The Slovenian team also won a team competition in the World Cup for the first time.

At the Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund , Norway , he won the bronze medal in the team competition with the Slovenian team. His third and final victory in the Continental Cup was on August 30, 2014 in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm in the Czech Republic . After several serious knee injuries, he ended his career as an active jumper in June 2016.
