Kai Kristian Kovaljeff (born August 8, 1985 in Tampere ) is a Finnish Nordic combined and ski jumper .

Career

Kai Kovaljeff lives in Kuopio and starts for Lieksan Hiihtoseura . The student started out as a Nordic combined athlete. He contested his first international race in 2001 in Vuokatti as part of the B World Cup. In a competition based on the Gundersen method, he came in 64th place. It then took a little more than two years until his next assignment. There he started until the end of the 2004/05 season. The best result in 2005 was a 28th place in a sprint in Vuokatti. In 2004 Kovaljeff appeared in Stryn for the first time at a junior world championship. The Finn finished 34th in the sprint race and came fourth in the relay with Ville Kähkönen , Janne Ryynänen and Anssi Koivuranta . A year later he finished 31st in the Gundersen competition in Rovaniemi .

After 2005 Kovaljeff switched to special jumping. Since 2007 he has competed in lower-class FIS, Continental Cups and Grand Prix. He achieved his first top ten result early on at the Continental Cup in Villach , finishing sixth on the normal hill. However, these results initially remained the exception. The Finn was only able to stabilize his performance in the 2008/09 season . In January, Kovaljeff was used for the first time in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Zakopane , finished 21st and won World Cup points for the first time. On January 31, 2009, he achieved his best World Cup result to date with his 16th place in Sapporo .
