Sofja Dmitrijewna Tichonowa ( Russian Софья Дмитриевна Тихонова , English Sofia Tikhonova ; born November 16, 1998 in Saint Petersburg ) is a Russian ski jumper . At the 2015 Junior World Championships in Almaty, she became the individual junior world champion.

Career

Sofja Tichonowa made her international debut in the Continental Cup on December 7, 2010 in Rovaniemi, Finland . At the age of only twelve she finished 38th out of 39 starters. After further COC competitions, in which she was also able to collect points, Tichonowa took part as the youngest starter in the Junior World Championships in Otepää and landed on rank 43. A year later, she reached place 41 in the individual at the Junior World Championships in Erzurum . Together with the team she came in ninth. In 2013 she jumped to 15th place in individual and reached sixth place in team competition.

In addition to the Junior World Championships, she was able to collect points in the Continental Cup. In the 2012/13 season she won the overall ranking of the FIS Cup . In addition, Tichonowa took sixth place in the final ranking of the Continental Cup .

On September 13, 2013 she started in Nizhny Tagil for the first time at the Ski Jumping Grand Prix . With 23 points she reached 38th place in the 2013 final ranking .

On December 7, 2013 Tichonowa took part in Lillehammer for the first time in a World Cup competition . In Tchaikovsky , Russia , she reached the points for the first time in January 2014 with places 22 and 30. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2014 in Predazzo she finished 21st in the individual and sixth place with the Russian team.

On December 5, 2014, she reached her first top ten placement in a World Cup competition as fourth in Lillehammer . At the 2015 European Olympic Winter Youth Festival in Tschagguns , she won gold in the individual competition and silver in the mixed team. In February 2015 she became the individual world champion at the Junior World Ski Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and won the silver medal with the Russian team. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in the same month , she finished 20th in the individual and sixth with the Russian mixed team. At the end of the season in March, she won her first Russian championship title in Tchaikovsky .

In February 2016, Tikhonova took part in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer . In the individual competition she won the silver medal in second behind Ema Klinec and with the Russian team she missed a medal in fourth in the mixed team competition. At the Junior World Ski Championships in Râşnov in the same month, she won the bronze medal in the individual and was eighth in the mixed team competition.

At the 2017 Junior World Ski Championships in Park City, Utah , she finished ninth in the singles and with the Russian team in seventh place in the team competition and ninth place in the mixed team competition. Three weeks later she finished 26th in the individual at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti .

In the 2017/18 season , she took second place with the Russian team in the first two team competitions in the women's World Cup in Hinterzarten and three in Zaō . At the Junior World Ski Championships in 2018 in Kandersteg , Switzerland , she won the silver medal again with the Russian team after 2015, but clearly missed the medal ranks in the individual in ninth place. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she started as an Olympic athlete from Russia and finished 25th in the individual competition on the normal hill . At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , she was 20th in the individual and finished fifth with the Russian women's team and seventh with the mixed team. The World Cup season 2018/19 graduating Tikhonova on the fifteenth rank.
