history

The old Zelfenschanze

In 1937 a K80 was built here with the “Zelfenschanze”. At that time it was the largest ski jump in Austria. The ski jump had a capacity of 6,000 spectators and was opened on January 9th, 1938. Ski flying world record holder Josef Bradl made the first 80 m jump in Austria. The ski jumping facility was closed during the Second World War and reopened on March 12, 1946. In 1947 the Austrian championships were held here and in the same year the hill record of 87 meters was set. On March 12th 1950 there was another international competition and in the 1960s the ski jumps were closed.

Establishment of the Montafon ski jumping center

In 2007 the reconstruction was decided. The jumps will be covered with plastic matting. The facility will include two smaller hills of category K 20, K 35 , a medium hill of category K 60 and a normal hill of category K 95 (HS 108).

Construction began in March 2013. On June 28, 2014, the facility was opened as part of an official ceremony with around 700 invited guests and an open day with 2,000 visitors.

As a test competition, the "Alpencup" was held here on the weekend of September 26th to 28th, 2014. The Austrian championship on October 12, 2014 also took place here and international competitions will take place regularly in the future. The jumping competitions and the combined jumps as part of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) took place on these facilities from 25 to 30 January 2015.
