Lara Malsiner (born April 14, 2000 in Sterzing , South Tyrol ) is an Italian ski jumper . Her older sister Manuela is also a ski jumper.
Career
Lara Malsiner made her international debut on February 25, 2012 at the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2012 in Žiri . From the summer of 2013 she started regularly in Alpine Cup competitions. She reached her first podium in this series of competitions on September 27, 2014 in Tschagguns and on January 9, 2016 in Žiri, she won an Alpine Cup for the first time. She also took part in the OPA Nordic Ski Games again in 2014 and 2015 . In 2014 she came second in the individual competition in Gérardmer and in 2015 in Seefeld in the first place in the individual and eighth place in the team competition.
On June 11, 2015, it started for the first time in the FIS Cup in Villach and on August 28, 2015 for the first time in the Continental Cup in Oberwiesenthal . She made her debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 4, 2015 in Lillehammer . At her first start she landed in 30th place and was able to get her first World Cup point. At further starts in the 2015/16 World Cup season, however, she could not get any further points. At the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, she won the bronze medal in singles behind the Slovenian Ema Klinec and the Russian Sofja Tichonowa . At the Junior World Championships in 2016 in Râşnov , she was 35th in the singles and ninth with the mixed team.
On July 16, 2016, she made her debut in the Summer Grand Prix in Courchevel and took her first Grand Prix points in 24th place. On August 26, 2016, she achieved her first podium finish in the Continental Cup with a third place in Oberwiesenthal . At two other Grand Prix starts in Tchaikovsky in summer 2016 , she was able to score more points in 24th and 18th. In the 2016/17 World Cup season , she mostly missed the finals. Only once did she come under the top 30. She succeeded in Ljubno , where she achieved her best World Cup result to date with 15th place. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Park City , Utah in February 2017 , she finished sixth in the individual competition that her sister Manuela won. In the mixed team competition they finished fifth together with Giovanni Bresadola and Alex Insam . In the same month she took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti and finished 37th in the individual competition.
In the 2017/18 season her performance in the World Cup improved significantly. As part of the Lillehammer Triple 2017 , the World Cup opener, she finished 14th, eighth and ninth and thus achieved her best individual results and first top ten placements. She finished the Lillehammer Triple in eighth place overall. In the further course of the season she reached another top 10 placement in ninth place in Sapporo . In addition, she reached a place in the top 30 in every World Cup competition in which she took part. In the overall World Cup, she landed in 18th place with 195 points. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in February 2018 in Kandersteg , she finished fifth in the individual, tenth in the team and 13th in the mixed team competition. A week later, she jumped to 15th place in the individual competition on the normal hill at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
On October 20, 2018, Malsiner became Italian champion on the Trampolino dal Ben normal hill in Predazzo . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2019 in Lahti , Finland , she won the bronze medal in the individual competition and, with the Italian teams, took seventh place in the junior team competition and eighth place in the mixed team competition. At the Nordic World Championships in 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , she was 14th in the individual and finished eighth with both the women's team and the mixed team.
In the 2019/20 World Cup season , Malsiner confirmed her status as the best Italian ski jumper and usually represented her nation as the only athlete in the second round. She was not only able to achieve this consistently, but also to make it into the top of the world every now and then. After she had already reached the top 10 three times in the season, Malsiner jumped on February 9, 2020 from the Aigner-Schanze in Hinzenbach behind Chiara Hölzl and Eva Pinkelnig for the first time in her career.
