Manuela Malsiner (born December 15, 1997 in Sterzing , South Tyrol ) is an Italian ski jumper . Her younger sister Lara is also a ski jumper.

Career

Malsiner, who competes for SC Gardena, made her international debut at the FIS Junior Jumping in Baiersbronn in February 2011. After finishing 17th there, she started the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Bischofsgrün for the first time in August as a 13-year-old . As 52nd and 43rd, however, she clearly missed a front placement. In the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2012 in Turkey's Erzurum Malsiner jumped to 13th place in the individual competition.

In summer 2012 she jumped two competitions in Villach as part of the FIS Cup and achieved a sixth and a seventh place. Then she got a permanent starting place in the Alpencup , where she was able to jump on the podium as third in the first competition in Pöhla . In Einsiedeln she achieved her best individual result with second place.

After Malsiner was able to jump into the top ten twice in Winterberg in mid-December , she got a starting place for the qualification for the Ski Jumping World Cup on January 4, 2013 in Schonach in the Black Forest , after having only landed in the B-team before the start of the season. After a 43rd place in the qualification, she was 52nd in the competition. A week later, she just barely missed the points in Hinterzarten as 32nd and 33rd. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2013 in Liberec , she reached 35th place in the individual and could not build on her ascending performance.

On February 17, 2013 Malsiner succeeded for the first time in the World Cup jumping in Ljubno as the 25th to win her first six World Cup points. A week later she was 29th in the individual jumping on the normal hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme in 2013 , before she finished the 2012/13 season with a 35th place in Trondheim and 51st overall.

In the summer of 2013, Malsiner started in the Summer Grand Prix for the first time . She made her debut on July 26th in Hinterzarten and finished 32nd, with which she missed the points. At her second start on August 15 in Courchevel , she then picked up her first points as 28. In the 2013/14 World Cup season , she was able to regularly jump into the top 30. Her best World Cup result of the season was 18th place in Zaō . With 58 points, she finished 36th in the overall World Cup. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2014 in Val di Fiemme, she jumped to 19th place in the individual competition. On March 21, 2014 Malsiner fell during training for the World Cup final in Planica . She was injured in this fall and then missed the entire 2014/15 season.

She made her comeback on January 9th and 10th 2016 as part of the Alpine Cup in Žiri . After further starts at the Alpencup jumping in Oberwiesenthal , she returned to the World Cup on January 30, 2016 in Oberstdorf . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 in Râșnov , Romania , she jumped to 18th place in the individual competition and ninth place with the Italian team.

In the 2016/17 season Malsiner achieved her first top ten placements in the World Cup. With a second place behind Yūki Itō at the competition in Zaō on January 20, 2017, she reached her first podium. On February 1, 2017, she was Junior World Champion in Park City ahead of Ema Klinec and Nika Križnar in the individual competition on the normal hill. In the team competition, she was fifth. In the same month she took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships for the second time in Lahti . She finished 15th in the individual and seventh place in the mixed team competition. At the end of the season she finished 15th in the overall World Cup with 298 points, the best result of her career to date.

She could not confirm the results of the previous season in the 2017/18 World Cup . It stayed in ninth place in Zaō with a top ten result in an individual World Cup competition. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she took 18th place in the individual competition on the normal hill .
